Happy Hump Day Fans!!!

Happy Hump Day Fans! The ‘Car Tip of the Week’ is here! To keep your
car’s air-conditioning system fit for the next warm season, run it a few
times throughout the winter. This will prevent moving parts in the
compressor from seizing. Also, circulating the refrigerant will help
keep the seals soft and pliant. So always remember to run your cars air
conditioning during the winter!

"Heels on Wheels - 2013 Kia Sorento Review"

INTRO TO THE SORENTO VEHICLE
A more rugged mid-size SUV, the Kia Sorento is on point with price, interior comforts and constructional frame changes that have resulted in a more refined ride for up to seven passengers. Another bonus is gas estimates remain both eco- and budget-conscious at just 21 miles-per-gallon city and 27 highway under an impressive 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine.

I drove a 2013 Kia Sorento with the larger 276-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine with front-wheel drive paired to a six-speed automatic transmission featuring Sportamatic for clutch-free manual shifting. Available in three trims (LX, EX and SX), a four-cylinder or V6 engine, and optional all-wheel drive with a lockable center differential, my mid-level EX trim came with the following standard equipment: leather upholstery; eight-way power driver's seat; three-setting heated front seats; dual-zone climate control; black wood trim; XM radio; steering-wheel mounted controls; Bluetooth; UVO Powered by Microsoft; auxiliary and USB audio input jacks; trip computer; backup warning system; seventeen-inch wheels; and heated outside mirrors with integrated turn signal. Optional equipment and packages included an upgraded Infinity audio system, navigation, and a sunroof. Total vehicle price came to $34,390.

What makes the Kia unique is that it's a smaller 3-row SUV. Main competitors to the Kia Sorento are in the dozens, with the Mazda CX-9 and Toyota RAV4 and meeting most closely mirroring the same value, space and style attributes.

HEELS ON WHEELS REVIEW CRITERIA

Stylish But Comfortable Results: While Kia continues to be an attractive choice for its sleek designs and generous standard features at the base trim, my mid-level EX is a recommended choice as it adds some essentials like leather seats, a better climate control system and Kia's connectivity system called UVO Powered by Microsoft. Short for "Your Voice," this voice-recognizing infotainment system streamlines calls, text messages and music from all your media sources. There is some displacement of center stack controls and poor lighting at the gearshift.

Reliability & Safety Factor: The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gives the 2013 model ratings of "Good" in frontal, side impact and roof strength crash tests, making it a Top Safety Pick. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the Sorento a 4-Star rating. Safety standards include an advanced airbag system, electronic stability control, traction control, electronic brake distribution, hill assist control, downhill brake control, LATCH and rear child-safety door locks.
Cost Issues: A base or Kia Sorento LX begins at $23,150. A fully loaded Sorento SX ready to tow will remain under $38k.

Activity & Performance Ability: Much more impressive that former years, the Sorento's switch to a unibody frame aids in smoother handling and quieter cabin ride. Towing capacity is 3,500 pounds with the V6 engine. The vehicle is roomy inside with an easy to park traditional boxy shape. Turning radius was better than expected. Overall, it is a very steady drive with excellent safety measures in tack yet not as agile, quick and light as the Mazda CX-9.

The Green Concern: Under the 3.5-liter V6 engine, fuel economy is 20-city and 26-highway for an average of 22 miles-per-gallon, while all-wheel drive gets 18-city and 24-highway for a combined 20.

FINAL PARTING WORDS
The 2013 Kia Sorento differs from your typical mid-size utility vehicle by combining sporty, efficient and value-driven qualities for a three-row crossover that can meet all budget and capability needs.

"Kia Executive Says Brand Will Move Upscale in Five Years, Compete with Audi and BMW"

Kia has made quite an effort to improve its vehicles and brand image, but its still very much a mainstream brand competing with the likes of Toyota and Volkswagen. Now, the automaker has set its sights on more premium competitors with a goal of moving upscale and offering higher levels of quality and luxury.

According to New Zealand-based Scoop Independent News, Kia Motors vice-chairman Lee Hyoung-keun announced the companys new goal while speaking to a group of the automakers global dealers and distributors. Hyoung-keun said Kia should be among the list of "first-class brands" by 2017, on par with premium automakers like Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi.

Kias styling has improved dramatically in recent years, due largely in part to the hiring of design chief Peter Schreyer, who jumped ship from Volkswagen and Audi to join the Korean brand. The Kia Optima, for example, is widely considered a design success with an interior that includes Audi-like styling touches.

In addition to styling, Kia has set a goal to improve quality and technology. Kia recently unveiled its Quoris rear-drive flagship sedan, which showcases a number of high-tech and premium features such as all-LED headlights, a head-up display, and a rear-seat package that includes a reclining backrest and heated and ventilated seats. The Quoris launched in a number of markets including Korea, but the automaker still hasnt confirmed that the sedan will come to the U.S.

What do you think of Kias new goal of becoming a premium luxury brand? Does the automaker stand a chance against major luxury players like Lexus and Mercedes?

Monday Maintenance Tip: Rotating Your Tires

3_group_3

What is this?

We know that all tires rotate. But we're talking about another kind of rotation -- rotating tires to different corners of the car and maybe even reversing the direction in which they turn.

Many tires are rotated front-to-back and side-to-side, but some tires are directional, which means they're only supposed to turn in one direction. They have to stay on the same side of the car. Directional tires often have arrows on the tire's sidewall to show you the direction in which they should turn.

If you're not sure which kind of tires you have, check with your mechanic.

Should I do this service when it's recommended?

You should do this service only if you can do it for $20 or less, in our opinion.

The financial benefit of rotating tires is that you'll increase the useful life of the tire. But if you pay more than about $20, you'll probably wipe out any savings you might have gained.

Instead, ask your mechanic to rotate your tires when they're already off your car for another service, such as a brake repair. That way, you won't have to pay extra -- unless your mechanic is a jerk.

Why do I have to do this?

You don't have to rotate your tires. But by rotating them, you will increase your tires' life because they'll wear more evenly.

What happens if I don't do this?

Nothing bad will happen, but you'll get fewer miles out of your tires.

Is there any maintenance required between intervals?

No.

Car Talk Tip: Don't forget Newton's Seventh Law: Tires in balance tend to stay in balance. If you're having your tires rotated, don't pay extra to have them rebalanced. You probably won't need it. Have your tires rebalanced only if you feel a shimmy or vibration.

Yonkers Kia is Partnering with 'Toys For Tots'

Toys_for_tots
This year Yonkers Kia is yet again an official 'Toys For Tots' donation site. So stop in and contribute to the cause! Please bring in your new and unwrapped toys to help out a family in need this holiday season!

The mission of Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is to assist the U. S. Marine Corps in providing a tangible sign of hope to economically disadvantaged children at Christmas. This assistance includes supporting the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program by raising funds to provide toys to supplement the collections of local Toys for Tots campaigns, to provide promotional and support material and defray the costs of conducting annual Toys for Tots campaigns. Other Foundation support includes providing administrative, advisory, financial, logistic and promotional support to local Toys for Tots Coordinators; managing funds raised and monies donated based on the use of Toys for Tots name or logo; providing other support the Marine Corps, as a federal agency, cannot provide; and conducting public education and information programs about Toys for Tots that call the general public to action in support of this patriotic community action program.

The primary goal of the Foundation is the same as that of the overall Toys for Tots Program: i.e. – to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them into becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

Happy Hump Day Fans!!!

Hello Fans! The car tip of the week is here. This weeks tip is on
cleaning the interior of your vehicle.  Vacuum and sponge your interior
every time you wash your car. Dirt particles are abrasive, and spilled
liquids, such as soda, can be corrosive. Vacuum your interior thoroughly
with a powerful vacuum (small cordless models are generally too weak).
Use the appropriate wand heads when vacuuming. The bare metal wand can
mar and scratch surfaces. Sponge vinyl surfaces clean with a solution of
mild detergent and water.

Kia's UVO Texts When Teens Go Astray

Don't want your kid driving to a certain part of town — say that sketchy neighborhood out west or the house of a friend that you're not so keen on? In the near-future, your Kia could send you a text message if they go there.

It works through the automaker's new UVO with eServices, which expands on Kia's voice-activated UVO ("Your Voice") system with a smartphone application that enables parental controls, among other things. Besides the usual services — 9-1-1 assist and send-to-car Google Maps navigation in nav-equipped cars — UVO offers what Kia Forte product strategy manager Dan Tiet called "geo-fencing," or the ability to draw zones on a map and receive alerts when your car goes there.

Kia announced UVO with eServices at this week's Los Angeles Auto Show. It debuts on the 2014 Sorento and Forte, and Kia officials at the automaker's press conference confirmed it would roll out to most other Kia models in the next year. There's no subscription fee for the service, which works through an iPhone app. "It's a piggyback system," Tiet said. "It tethers to your smartphone."

Kia expects to expand the app to Android smartphones next spring. Other eServices features include a parked-car locator and, similar to Ford's Sync and GM's OnStar, vehicle diagnostics. Parents also can set a speed limiter when their teens get behind the wheel, Tiet said. That's similar to Ford's MyKey system, which gives parents the ability to set limits on vehicle speed, stereo volume and more.
